Saumur is home to the Cadre Noir, the École Nationale d'Équitation (National School of Horsemanship), known for its annual horse shows, as well as the officer school for armored forces (tanks).
There is a tank museum, the Musée des Blindés, with more than 850 armored vehicles, wheeled or tracked.
The city is overlooked by its castle. Built during on the XIVth century for the Ducs d'Anjou, it becomes the house of the governors of the town, then a jail, before being bought by the town in 1906.
Downtown you can admire the Cessart bridge, the theater of Saumur and the hotel Budan, built in 1864.
You can visit the center by foot, across half pedestrian streets. At Saint-Pierre square, you can admire ancient houses.
